The East Asia EdTech 150 list is based on tech startups in the East Asian ecosystem, including Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, China, and Taiwan. With a total population of 1.6 billion, this region has the highest population in the world. It is also an emerging high-tech powerhouse, accounting for more than half of global tech company revenue growth over the past decade and more than 45% of global start-up capital and R&D spending. Education is a key component of this result. Therefore, it is no surprise to see such a strong presence at the 2021 East Asia EdTech 150, especially in STEAM, robotics, and artificial intelligence, including teams like Makeblock, Turing OS, and Songshu AI, Mathpresso, and Elice.
